Before You Start, Do the Following

• Speak with an in-store product specialist or contact Timber Pro Coatings
• Select correct product for your project
• Read all Directions For Use on product container and our website prior to starting
• Do a test sample of colour before starting your project. See back of sheet for directions on how to use liquid samples
• Wash the wood to be stained, then let dry for a minimum of 24 hours before next step
• Sand mill glazed wood (new smooth surface on wood) to remove glazed surface
• Sand old wood to level surface and expose new wood cells for stain to absorb into
• Use 30–60 grit sandpaper, random orbital sander or plate sander only
• At all times: Wear a dust mask when sanding
• Apply in correct weather conditions, when surface and air temperature is between 10°C and 25°C or as noted in Directions For Use of product you are using
• If the surface feels cool to touch, it is most likely good to stain
• Intermix batches/cans/pails of stain to ensure colour consistency
• Stir stain before and during use to avoid pigments settling in can or pail
• Apply correct amount of stain as per application rate and with appropriate tools as recommended in Directions For Use
• Be sure to liberally apply to exposed end grain and cuts to seal the surface from water wicking
• Apply stain in direction of wood grain and deck/siding boards
• Keep a wet edge at all times to avoid lap marks
• If possible, coat all sides of deck or siding boards prior to installation (not required but if done; offers better dimensional stability and reduces moisture exchange in substrate)
